Preventing False Alarms

One of the biggest causes of false alarms is the humble spider! that little creep with eight legs only has to be half the size of your little finger nail and walking within one inch of the front of the movement sensor. if your alarm is turned on and this happens then you will have an alarm activation.

here is a list of possible reasons why your alarm may falsely go off

1 - Spiders

2 - Windows left open

3 - Doors moving

4 - Things falling over

5 - Pets (incorrect sensors)

6 - Lack of maintenance (flat battery)

7 - Poorly installed cabling

8 – Faulty equipment

9 - Christmas time (moving decorations, balloons moving across the floor or ceiling)

This list is not all but is the most common, and they can be avoided with just a little forward planning, the biggest winner on this list is the humble spider by a mile. These creatures can and will give you a false alarm if it can, the best way to deal with this is to not give them a chance.

In this instance your best friend is the long arm feather duster! swizzle it around the sensor and the ceiling on a regular bases. this will reduce the build up of cobwebs and spiders. If you ask your friendly alarm engineer he may even open up your sensors to make certain spiders are not inside the sensor. (they are not air tight and spiders will get in if you give them a chance.)
